dishwashing vs. toilet scrubbing.... or the benefits of planning ahead....

so..... this is one of the reasons i prefer toilet scrubbing: i always know what to expect.....

toilet scrubbing is a quick, painless procedure, while dishwashing is a fluctuating task, dependent upon what has occurred throughout an entire day, how much thought has gone into dirty dishes (has someone left some serious food crust all day vs. soaking some future potential hard scrubbing?), .....

all in all: i hate washing dishes.

i don't want to be a nag...., that is one of the reasons why i write. maybe i will portray myself as a nag in writing, but i suppose that my writings will be seen in better humor, rather than let my whiny voice drown out all other noise in the day.

i am one who is all for creativity....., but with creativity comes planning. if you are to paint, you need your proper supplies, say, a canvas, brushes, paints, water.... if you are to let a two year old child paint a little more planning should take place....
in order to accomplish this you may have to ask yourself some questions: do i pose a risk of ruining clothes if i leave the child dressed? do i need to lay down extra paper, plastic, etc. so the child doesn't soil the floor?, how do i prepare if the child gets paint in his/ her hair? how do i make this clean up after/during the fun as easy and painless for myself/ them as possible?.....and so on.

that being said,

my dear jeremy is a beautiful, thoughtful, creative fellow. today he found a magnificent pine cone, freshly fallen from a giant of a pine tree. to celebrate it's innate beauty, he wanted to add some of his own creativity to combine it with the creativity of our Lord and Maker.... a form of worship, and what have you. he decided that he would clean this treasure and then paint some of the open scales. i, unassumingly, thought "to clean" meant to use some simple soap and water. later, as he rushed out of the room where we were, he mumbled something about forgetting about the boiling water in which the pine cone was being cleansed.....

first of all, my love, does a pine cone have to be sterilized? are we preparing for surgery? secondly, and the first thought in my head was, " my god, sap all over our limited supply of pots".... i quickly recovered this escaping thought and rationalized, "no, he will clean it up, he wouldn't do that...." boy oh boy.

he returned to me with the once beautifully open and proud pine cone, with a closed and cold pine cone- one that was in complete contrast to the one before. the first pine cone was unashamed, baring it's innards, while the second seemed protective, and covering it's nakedness.

it became clear to me that the high heat had inadvertently driven the pine cone to protect itself from utter destruction; we will have to see if it decides to trust us to be gentle with it a second time...

as i was walking around the kitchen later, i noticed a pot on the sink.... "oh no," i thought, " he must have cleaned it. i know that beautiful stainless steel pot that i need so badly for my everyday use has not been neglected and forgotten, sitting with the remnants of a pine cone, gluing to its very surface..."

i passed by the shiny ware a couple more times before i decided to take a look.

what i saw was sap all over our beautiful pot.

i scrubbed. then i used vinegar and baking soda. and scrubbed. then i thought about looking on the internet about having to clean sap off a pot. really? does that exist? is there another human being in the whole world that will admit to something like this? i have yet to find out, but i will let you know.

all in all..... please, please, please, consult your loved one before using cookware and other such necessities before getting creative.

more to come on "the benefits of planning ahead".

xoxo. me. in order to not be a nag.
